[Saba Sports News] The Washington Wizards’ young core has stepped up amidst a season full of injuries, but they’ll have even more responsibility now. Sixth man Corey Kispert is officially out for the season after undergoing surgery on his left thumb, the team announced Tuesday.
“INJURY UPDATE: Guard-forward Corey Kispert underwent a successful surgical procedure today in New York City to repair a ligament tear in his left thumb,” the Wizards stated. “The injury occurred in the third quarter against the Denver Nuggets on March 15. Kispert is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season.”
The 26-year-old was averaging 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 45.1% shooting in 26.3 minutes per game. With Bilal Coulibaly (hamstring) also sidelined, Washington will lean even more on its rookie class—Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, and AJ Johnson—to provide key contributions alongside the veterans.
