[Jolly Sports News] Julius Randle missed the New York Knicks’ playoff campaign this year, and his future with the team appears uncertain. Shams Charania of The Athletic recently discussed on FanDuel’s “Run It Back” that opposing teams are keeping a close eye on Randle’s situation as he heads into a potentially expiring contract with the Knicks.
Currently, Randle is set to earn $30.3 million next season, but his contract status beyond that is less certain due to a player option for the 2025-26 season. Additionally, he is eligible for a four-year, $181.5 million extension with the Knicks this offseason, according to Charania.
Despite an injury-shortened season where he averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists over 46 games, Randle’s absence didn’t stop the Knicks from securing the No. 2 seed in the East and coming within a game of the conference finals. The team adapted by shifting to a smaller lineup, reducing Randle’s role in their future plans.
Looking ahead, the Knicks have several key roster decisions, including potential extensions for stars like Jalen Brunson and new signings such as OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein. With Brunson’s emergence as a leading player, Randle may find himself as the secondary option, which alongside his high salary demands and previous issues in New York, could make him a trade candidate this offseason.
