[Jolly Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs have provided an update on Gregg Popovich’s health, explaining the situation that led to his temporary absence from the team.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Spurs confirmed that Popovich experienced a mild stroke on Nov. 2 while preparing for a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. He has since started a rehabilitation program and is expected to fully recover.

While there’s no set timeline for Popovich’s return, the announcement sheds light on the recent reports of “great concern” within the organization about his health.

Popovich, who turns 76 in January, is the NBA’s oldest active head coach and the oldest in league history.

Retirement rumors have followed him for years, particularly after health issues almost prompted him to step away in 2015.

In his absence, assistant coach Mitch Johnson has stepped in as interim head coach. Under Johnson, the Spurs have gone 3-3 and are set to face the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
