[Jolly Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs’ already thin lineup around Victor Wembanyama took another hit with news that Jeremy Sochan suffered a fractured left thumb in Monday’s game against the Clippers.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sochan will undergo surgery later this week, with a likely recovery time of at least a month. Sochan injured his thumb while fighting over a screen defending James Harden late in the first half.
This injury is a major setback for the Spurs, as Sochan has emerged as the team’s second-best player this season. He’s displayed promising versatility, drawing comparisons to a young Draymond Green with his all-around game.
Last season, the Spurs tested him as a point guard, but this year, with Chris Paul onboard, Sochan has flourished off the ball.
In San Antonio’s first seven games, Sochan has averaged 15.4 points on 51.2% shooting, along with 7.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists, establishing himself as a key piece in the Spurs’ developing core alongside Wembanyama.
