[Jolly Sports News] The Houston Rockets received encouraging news on Monday regarding Alperen Sengun, their prominent center, after a worrying incident in Sunday’s matchup against Sacramento.
Despite the initial fears from a distressing leg injury, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Sengun has sidestepped any serious harm. He sustained a significant ankle sprain and a knee bone bruise but fortunately avoided structural damage.
The relief comes especially considering the grim scene of Sengun exiting the court via wheelchair, making the diagnosis relatively good news for the Rockets. At the moment of his exit, the team hoped for any outcome that might allow him to return to play within the season.
Sengun has been a key player this season, with impressive averages of 21.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. While his injury likely dashes the Rockets’ slim hopes for a play-in tournament spot — they were already 4.5 games behind the tenth seed before Monday’s games — the main relief is his potential to return to the court this season without significant long-term issues.
