[Saba Sports News] Jason Kidd may have his eyes on a new opportunity — and it could take him from Dallas to New York.

During an appearance on The Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon floated the possibility that the Dallas Mavericks head coach could leave to take the same role with the New York Knicks. While MacMahon emphasized that Kidd doesn’t appear to be actively seeking a way out of Dallas, he pointed to signs that suggest a potential move to New York can’t be ruled out.

“One of the names that’s been mentioned is someone still under contract — a guy with strong relationships, not just with Jalen Brunson but with others in the Knicks organization — and that’s Jason Kidd,” MacMahon said, per Hoops Wire. “I wouldn’t dismiss that possibility.”

MacMahon clarified he doesn’t believe Kidd is pushing to leave but noted the Mavericks have made several major decisions that Kidd wasn’t on board with. One example he cited was the controversial departure of longtime NBA trainer Casey Smith, who is now with the Knicks and remains close to Kidd.

The 52-year-old Hall of Famer recently wrapped up his fourth season as head coach in Dallas, leading the Mavericks to the NBA Finals. However, signs of internal tension have emerged — most notably when Kidd revealed that he had no involvement in the shocking Luka Dončić trade earlier this year.

Kidd also has ties to the Knicks, having played his final NBA season in New York in 2012–13. He coached Jalen Brunson during their time together in Dallas, which strengthens the connection.

With the Knicks having just fired Tom Thibodeau, Kidd is one of two current NBA head coaches already being linked to the vacancy. According to MacMahon, a move to New York is “within the realm of possibility.”
