[Jolly Sports News] Victor Wembanyama’s former basketball team, Metropolitans 92, has gone bankrupt, according to a report by Le Parisien. Before joining the NBA, Wembanyama played for Metropolitans 92 in France’s top league, LNB Pro A.

Le Parisien reported that Metropolitans 92 informed French authorities they could no longer participate in competitions due to financial difficulties. The team, operating since 2007 and renamed in 2019, won the French Cup in 2013. Their roster was impacted when both Wembanyama and Bilal Coulibaly were drafted into the NBA in 2023. Former NBA player Boris Diaw also played for the team under a different name.

Additionally, the G League Ignite team, which played against Metropolitans 92 in Las Vegas in October 2022, has also gone bankrupt. This matchup was one of the first opportunities for U.S. fans to see Wembanyama, alongside Scoot Henderson, who became the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 draft. Now, both teams are no longer in operation.
