[Jolly Sports News] Paul George may be in a new uniform, but his frustrations appear all too familiar.
The Philadelphia 76ers star raised eyebrows on Friday after voicing displeasure following a 123-115 loss to the league-worst New Orleans Pelicans. With Joel Embiid sidelined by injuries, George has spent time filling in at center—a role he openly admitted doesn’t excite him.
“I’m used to scrapping, running around, chasing, and fighting through screens,” George said. “To be honest, I’m bored playing [at] the 5. It just doesn’t do enough for me. I enjoy chasing the little guys and matching up against wing offensive players.”
Despite his complaints, George acknowledged his role as a shot-blocker and interior presence. However, such gripes have been a recurring theme throughout the nine-time All-Star’s career.
During his tenure with the Indiana Pacers, George voiced frustration about playing power forward. With the LA Clippers, he objected to being utilized as a guard.
Now, on a 76ers squad grappling with injuries and a struggling 15-21 record, George appears discontent with being used as a center.
The season hasn’t gone according to plan for George, who signed a four-year, $212 million max deal over the summer. He’s averaging a modest 16.5 points per game on 42/34/81 shooting splits.
Still, he delivered a strong performance on Friday, posting 25 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, showcasing his versatile 6-foot-8 frame and defensive prowess.
While George’s adaptability remains a strength, his history of role-related frustrations continues to cast a shadow over his otherwise impressive career.
