[Jolly Sports News] Donald Trump appears set to include owners from both the NFL and NBA in his second presidential administration.
Jennifer Jacobs of CBS News reports that Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is expected to be nominated as the United States ambassador to Italy. Fertitta, a billionaire businessman and longtime Republican donor, has close ties to Trump.
This follows recent news that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is also being considered for another ambassadorial role in Trump’s administration.
Fertitta, who bought the Rockets for a record $2.2 billion in 2017, is widely known as the chairman and CEO of Landry’s Inc. and as the owner of several Golden Nugget casinos across the country.
At 67, Fertitta’s past support for Trump reportedly created friction with some Rockets players. Now, that loyalty seems poised to secure him a key diplomatic post with one of America’s top European allies.
