[Jolly Sports News] Magic Johnson expressed mixed feelings after the Washington Commanders’ narrow 20-19 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

While pleased with the win, he highlighted a major concern: the protection of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

As part of the Commanders’ ownership group since 2023, Johnson has been an active and vocal supporter of the team. Following the victory, which improved their record to 9-5, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts:

“Commanders fans, we escaped with a win and kept our playoff hopes alive! Although we won, we can’t have our QB Jayden Daniels sacked 8 times,” Johnson wrote.

Despite the protection issues, Daniels delivered an impressive performance, completing 25 of 31 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 11 times for 66 yards. However, the eight sacks, which resulted in a loss of 37 yards, were a glaring issue.

Some of the blame for the sacks lies with Daniels, whose tendency to extend plays with his legs occasionally leads to costly takedowns instead of throwaways.

While Washington’s chances of winning the division remain slim, their 9-5 record puts them in a strong position for a playoff spot—a significant achievement in Daniels’ rookie season.

Johnson’s critique underscores his commitment to the team’s long-term success, even as they celebrate important wins along the way.
