[Jolly Sports News] Lonzo Ball shared a positive injury update on the latest episode of The WAE Show, revealing he’ll start playing 5-on-5 next month.
“I’ve been getting asked this question a lot,” Ball said. “My first real test will be this August when I play 5-on-5 for the first time. So far, everything has been going well, and I’m getting stronger in the weight room. I have no complaints right now.”
He added, “I’m getting more comfortable each week. I can feel my movements getting back to normal. It’s just about finding the balance and managing stress on the knee. I’ll have a better understanding once I start playing 5-on-5.”
Ball, the second pick of the 2017 NBA Draft, has been sidelined for over two years. He last played on Jan. 14, 2022, against the Golden State Warriors. His injury journey began with a torn left meniscus in January 2022, leading to multiple surgeries and a long recovery process, including a cartilage transplant.
Despite the severity of his injury, Ball is optimistic about his return. His last season saw him averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game for the Chicago Bulls. Whether he can return to that level remains to be seen.
