[Jolly Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers probably won’t be taking home any design awards for their bold homecourt layout during the 2024 NBA Cup.
Tuesday marked the Lakers’ first NBA Cup home game of the season, as they faced off against the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The court features a striking silhouette of the city’s skyline in various shades of bright yellow. While certainly eye-catching, the design didn’t win everyone over once the game began. Some felt the bright colors were a bit overwhelming.
Even Lakers head coach JJ Redick wasn’t a fan. Ahead of the game, the first-year coach remarked that the vibrant yellow made the court look “worse.”
“The court is very bright,” Redick said. “Crypto is always bright, but the yellow court makes it worse.”
The Lakers picked up their first NBA Cup win last week in a 120-115 road victory against the San Antonio Spurs. The defending NBA Cup champions are in a tough group alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns.
Fans will get another chance to see the yellow court when the Lakers host the Thunder later this month.
