[Jolly Sports News] The honeymoon phase for JJ Redick as Lakers head coach seems to be over.
On Monday night, the Lakers suffered a surprising 115-103 loss to the Detroit Pistons. They trailed by as many as 20 points and couldn’t close the gap beyond five, despite a late push.
The Pistons, powered by 26 points from Jaden Ivey and a triple-double from Cade Cunningham (17-11-11), controlled the game from start to finish.
After losing to a team that went 14-68 last season, the Lakers were heavily memed on social media. Starting the season strong at 3-0, they’ve now dropped to 4-3, losing three of their last four road games.
They gave up 17 offensive rebounds to the Pistons and were outscored 27-10 in bench points.
While Redick has leaned on an Anthony Davis-centered offense and optimized lineups with LeBron James and Austin Reaves, the lack of offseason additions in the rotation may force the Lakers to consider a trade to stay competitive this season.
