[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers seem committed to closely monitoring Luka Dončić during his first offseason with the team—including his participation in EuroBasket 2025.

Matej Erjavec, president of the Slovenian Basketball Federation, revealed in a recent interview that the Lakers will be sending a coach to accompany Dončić during the tournament. The move is reportedly part of an agreement that allowed Dončić to compete internationally this summer.

“In a meeting with Rob Pelinka, within two minutes he said, ‘You’ll get Luka and one coach, and that’s it.’ And that was that—no debate,” Erjavec told Eurohoops.net.

The specific coach has yet to be determined, but the setup mirrors a previous arrangement Dončić had with the Dallas Mavericks, where assistant coach Sean Sweeney accompanied him during international play.

While the primary purpose is likely to support Dončić and ensure smooth communication, the Lakers will also be keeping a close eye on his health and conditioning—an offseason priority for the franchise. So far, early signs suggest Dončić is trending in the right direction physically, which would be welcome news for the Lakers heading into next season.
