[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics could be exploring options to move Kristaps Porzingis this offseason, and one Western Conference team may already be emerging as a potential landing spot.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Phoenix Suns have been doing “background work” on a possible Porzingis trade. The Suns are also reportedly interested in Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner via free agency, signaling a clear intent to add a frontcourt presence this summer.
With Kevin Durant likely on the move, Phoenix appears poised for a major roster shakeup. The franchise is expected to shift its focus to building around Devin Booker, while Bradley Beal’s massive contract may limit other moves. Adding a skilled big man like Porzingis would help the Suns stay competitive and provide much-needed interior scoring.
Although the Celtics may prefer to keep Porzingis, financial realities could force their hand. With Boston’s payroll ballooning, the team may have little choice but to shed salary if they hope to avoid massive luxury tax penalties.
Porzingis appeared in 42 games this past season, averaging 19.5 points and 6.8 rebounds. The 29-year-old has one year left on his current contract, making him a potentially valuable short-term addition for a team looking to contend.
