[Jolly Sports News] The New York Knicks have been busy finalizing their roster ahead of the 2024-25 season, a campaign filled with championship hopes following their blockbuster trade for Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Towns was brought in largely to address a perceived lack of depth in the frontcourt, which is now facing a tougher test with a recent injury update.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, “New York Knicks forward Precious Achiuwa sustained a strained left hamstring and will be re-evaluated in 2-4 weeks.”

Achiuwa stepped up during the Knicks’ playoff run last season, filling in for injured teammates during their second-round series against the Indiana Pacers.

While he performed admirably, it became clear the Knicks needed more depth in that area, especially with ongoing injury issues affecting center Mitchell Robinson. Now the longest-tenured Knick, Robinson is set to miss part of the 2024-25 season due to an ankle injury.

Achiuwa’s absence adds even more pressure on Towns to perform at an All-Star level from the start, despite having to adapt to a new offensive system built around point guard Jalen Brunson.

Towns, along with offseason additions Mikal Bridges and re-signed OG Anunoby, brings fresh faces to a Knicks squad that has its first real championship aspirations in over two decades. Their season opener against the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics is set for October 22 at 7:30 PM ET in Boston.
