[Jolly Sports News] The Sacramento Kings are turning to another point guard from the 2017 NBA Draft to help fill the void left by De’Aaron Fox.
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that the Kings are signing former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz.
The terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Fultz was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017, four spots ahead of Fox, but it’s Fox who has emerged as the more successful player, becoming a perennial 20-point scorer and one-time All-Star.
Fultz entered the league as a highly touted scorer out of Washington, but shooting struggles plagued his time in Philadelphia. After just two seasons with the Sixers, he was traded to the Orlando Magic before the 2019 trade deadline.
In Orlando, Fultz rebuilt his reputation as a solid backcourt piece, averaging 11.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over 201 games. While not superstar numbers, his play proved he belonged in the NBA.
However, injuries were a recurring issue for Fultz. A torn ACL in 2021 sidelined him for most of two seasons, and he was limited to just 43 games last year. Despite drawing interest from another Western Conference team in December, he remained unsigned until securing a deal with the Kings.
