[Jolly Sports News] Kevin Durant has sparked some tension with a former teammate.
Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder called out Durant during a Twitch stream this week. Schroder, who plays for Germany’s national team, made comments during the Paris Olympics about the differences between Team USA and European national teams, saying European play is more about “straight IQ basketball” and “straight coaching” rather than entertainment. Durant, apparently taking this as a slight, responded after the U.S. won gold by posting a picture of his team with their medals and the caption “ENTERTAINMENT & IQ.”
On his Twitch stream, Schroder fired back at Durant’s dig.
“After they won, Kevin Durant tweeted ‘High IQ and entertainment,’” Schroder said. “For me, that’s just weak. You’re that type of star, and you have to respond to someone like me? I didn’t mean it negatively, just sharing what I’d seen from both sides.”
Schroder added, “I respect those guys, but that tweet shows me how weak he is as a person. Not everyone is strong or in a good place.”
Schroder’s point highlights the difference in approach between Team USA, which relies on superstar power, and European teams, which build chemistry over years. While the U.S. has won five straight Olympic golds, the rest of the world is catching up.
Despite his success, Durant continues to be easily provoked, as evidenced by his social media interactions even after winning gold.
