[Jolly Sports News] Jimmy Butler’s new deal with the Golden State Warriors may not be as hefty as initially believed.
Jorge Sierra of HoopsHype reported Monday that Butler’s extension, which keeps him with the Warriors through 2027, is valued at $54.1 million in 2025-26 and $56.8 million in 2026-27.
Initially, Butler was reported to have secured a two-year, $121 million extension, but Sierra’s numbers suggest the real figure is closer to $111 million over two years.
That’s still a solid raise from the $52.4 million player option Butler originally held for 2025-26. However, it’s also a risky commitment for Golden State, as Butler will be pushing 38 when the deal ends.
His production has already shown some decline, averaging 17.3 points per game—his lowest in over a decade—while also getting to the free-throw line less frequently.
There may be incentives that could push Butler’s earnings back toward the original $121 million mark.
But at $111 million, the deal is more manageable, particularly given Butler’s history of regular-season absences and inconsistent effort. Still, with Stephen Curry, 36, locked in through 2027, the Warriors clearly see Butler’s contract as a gamble worth taking.
