[Saba Sports News] Javon Small’s grandfather stole hearts during the NBA Draft with an emotional moment that quickly went viral.

Small, a standout guard from West Virginia, was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 48th overall pick in the second round on Thursday. Memphis also added Cedric Coward at No. 11 and Jahmai Mashack at No. 59.

During a post-selection interview with ESPN’s Monica McNutt, cameras cut to Small’s grandfather, who was overcome with emotion.

Through tears, he repeatedly shouted “My boy!” in a powerful display of pride and love — a moment that captured the spirit of family sacrifice behind every NBA dream.

Reaching the NBA is an incredibly rare feat, and for many players, it represents the culmination of years of effort by their entire families. Small’s grandfather’s raw reaction was a touching reminder of that journey.

Small, a 6-foot-3 guard, earned First Team All-Big 12 honors last season after averaging 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He now joins a revamped Grizzlies backcourt — with his family clearly ready to support him every step of the way.
