[Saba Sports News] Ja Morant has once again drawn the NBA’s attention—this time for an unusual reason.
The league announced Sunday that the Memphis Grizzlies star has been fined $25,000 for throwing a ball into the stands during Friday’s game against the New York Knicks.
The incident occurred at the end of the third quarter when Morant grabbed a defensive rebound and casually launched a shot toward the other basket after the buzzer sounded. While video footage didn’t clearly show where the ball landed, it appeared to overshoot the hoop by a significant margin.
The NBA has a strict policy against intentionally throwing or kicking the ball into the stands, but fines for end-of-quarter heaves are rare. Since halfhearted long-range attempts are common, the league may have ruled that Morant’s shot was so far off the mark that it couldn’t be considered a genuine attempt.
While the two-time All-Star has largely avoided off-court controversies this season, his wallet continues to take hits—whether from questionable technical fouls or even a burglary that saw a significant amount of his property stolen.
