[Jolly Sports News] Erik Spoelstra made a costly mistake that led to a Miami Heat loss on Tuesday night, and it didn’t take long for Jalen Rose to start trending on social media.

The Heat held a 121-119 lead over the Detroit Pistons with under two seconds remaining in overtime at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit capitalized on a great ATO play, scoring an uncontested dunk with 1.1 seconds left.

An exasperated Spoelstra called a timeout to set up a final play, unaware that the Heat had no timeouts left (video here). Miami was hit with a technical foul and a turnover, sealing the Pistons’ 123-121 victory.

The broadcast then cut to Rose, who was in the stands. Fans instantly connected the moment to Rose’s former Michigan “Fab Five” teammate, Chris Webber, who famously called a timeout the Wolverines didn’t have in the 1993 NCAA title game.

Fans online joked that Rose must’ve had flashbacks seeing Spoelstra’s misstep. The broadcast team deserves credit for their spot-on timing, showing Rose at the perfect moment.

The Pistons led by as many as 18 points in the second half, with Tyler Herro’s 40-point surge helping Miami rally back. But Herro’s efforts couldn’t stop the basketball gods from repaying Michigan for that infamous timeout error nearly three decades later.
