[Jolly Sports News] LeBron James faced backlash from fans after his last-minute decision to sit out Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game due to injury.

The Los Angeles Lakers star announced just hours before tipoff at Chase Center in San Francisco that he wouldn’t be playing, marking the first All-Star Game he’s missed since his debut selection in 2004. While his absence alone was significant, many fans were more upset about the timing, arguing that the late notice robbed deserving players of a replacement spot.

Trae Young and Kyrie Irving were already added as injury replacements for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis, but other notable snubs—like Devin Booker, LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Maxey, Domantas Sabonis, and Clippers veteran Norman Powell—missed their shot at an All-Star nod.

Adding to the frustration, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards also opted out due to injury after James’ announcement. While Edwards may have skipped the game regardless, LeBron’s late withdrawal likely made his decision easier.

James’ absence was just one reason many fans labeled this year’s All-Star Game as one of the worst in NBA history.
