[Saba Sports News] Veteran guard Chris Paul offered a revealing glimpse into his NBA future during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Showon Thursday, hinting that family will play a major role in his next move.

Paul emphasized that he still wants to continue playing but acknowledged the toll that time away from his family has taken.

“I talked to my family about it. My son just turned 16, my daughter’s 12. The past six seasons, I’ve lived without them,” Paul said. “I’ve been away from them for six years. It’s different. That’s the conversation.

“I want to be a dad. I still love to play,” he added. “My daughter hoops now. Before I flew out here, I was in the gym with her for 20 minutes doing ballhandling drills, and it was priceless. You don’t get that time back.”

It’s clear Paul still has a passion for the game, but his preference is to play closer to home — his family is based in Los Angeles, which could reignite speculation about a return to a West Coast team.

Paul has previously stated that any decision about his playing future would come after talking with his family. The 40-year-old played last season with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists while starting all 82 games.

He’ll be a free agent this summer and has already been linked to at least one West Coast franchise. The question now is how far he’s willing to go from home — or whether staying close to family will ultimately guide his decision.
