[Jolly Sports News] The Cleveland Cavaliers sit atop the Eastern Conference with an impressive 32-4 record, making them the hottest team in the NBA. With their stellar performance, it would make basketball sense to maintain their current roster heading into the playoffs.

However, with the NBA trade deadline approaching and the team already over the luxury tax, owner Dan Gilbert may need to make some tough choices—one of which could involve trading Caris LeVert.

LeVert is averaging 11.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, providing valuable scoring off the bench for the Cavs’ second unit. Despite his solid contributions, there are several reasons the franchise may consider moving him.

A major factor is LeVert’s expiring contract. He signed a two-year, $32 million deal in the 2023 offseason, making him an attractive trade option for teams eyeing a postseason push. His ability to score off the bench would be an asset to any contender looking to bolster their lineup.

While trading LeVert comes with risk—he’s arguably the Cavs’ most reliable offensive weapon off the bench—it also eliminates the possibility of him walking away in free agency without the team receiving any compensation. The Cavs would need to win a championship to justify keeping him through the season.

Another reason to consider a trade is the luxury tax. According to HoopsHype, the Cavs are currently $1.8 million above the tax threshold. Moving LeVert could bring the team under that mark, providing financial relief.

Though the Cavs have dominated the regular season, NBA history suggests regular-season success doesn’t always guarantee playoff triumphs. Trading LeVert could allow the team to make minor upgrades to solidify their championship chances.

Ultimately, the Cavs must weigh the potential financial and roster benefits of moving LeVert against the risk of losing one of their key bench contributors. With the trade deadline approaching, it remains to be seen if Cleveland will stand pat or make a move in their quest for postseason glory.
