While this financial hit might not impact Young much—he’s currently on a $215 million contract—the move reflects his declining status in the league and among fans.
Once considered one of the NBA’s rising stars, especially after leading the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals, Young has maintained strong stats but hasn’t replicated that success.
The Hawks have struggled in the past three seasons, becoming a regular play-in team.
