[Jolly Sports News] Anthony Edwards is writing another check to the NBA.
The league announced Monday that the Minnesota Timberwolves star has been fined $25,000 for using profanity during a postgame interview.
The incident occurred after Minnesota’s win over the Golden State Warriors last Friday, during Edwards’ locker room media session.
While praising his team’s defensive performance, Edwards let a few F-bombs slip.
“Naz [Reid] and Julius [Randle] is f—ing playing defense,” Edwards said. “I’ve never seen them play defense before. So that’s f–ing incredible. [Julius is] right here, put the camera on him. He be guarding his a– off.”
Though the comments were clearly intended to highlight his teammates’ effort, the NBA decided the language warranted a fine, enforcing the $25,000 penalty.
The league may also have considered Edwards’ disciplinary history. Just weeks earlier, the two-time All-Star received a steeper fine for a middle-finger gesture during a game. While Edwards’ praise of his teammates was the focus of his remarks, the NBA evidently deemed the profanity a violation of their conduct policies.
