[Jolly Sports News] Zion Williamson’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans may be uncertain, but his commitment to the city remains unwavering.
On Friday, ESPN’s Malika Andrews reported that Williamson is donating $100,000 to the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Tragedy Fund.
The donation follows a suspected domestic terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during the early hours of New Year’s Day.
“As a father, son, and someone who loves the community, this hit me hard,” Williamson said. “This isn’t just about money but standing together and making sure no one feels alone.”
The tragic event occurred on New Year’s Day, when a man in a pickup truck intentionally drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring at least 35 others. The driver was fatally shot by police after attempting to engage them in a gunfight.
Williamson, a two-time All-Star and the Pelicans’ No. 1 overall pick in 2019, has faced challenges with injuries, including a hamstring issue that has sidelined him since November.
Trade rumors have swirled ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline, but Williamson continues to demonstrate his connection to New Orleans through acts of generosity, such as his recent donation to support the victims of this devastating incident.
