[Jolly Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs have been on a hot streak, improving to a balanced 19-19 after Monday’s road win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama is almost guaranteed to make his first All-Star appearance, with San Antonio holding an outside shot at ending their playoff drought.
Recently, Wembanyama created a heartwarming moment by swapping jerseys with a young fan after the Spurs’ victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
The child got to take home the prized jersey, but it has since surfaced in an online auction, prompting Wembanyama to share a one-emoji reaction on social media (via NBA Central on X). The jersey, listed on Goldin, has a starting bid of $10,000, with the auction kicking off on January 22.
Despite this jersey drama, Wembanyama continues to shine. Less than two full seasons into his NBA career, he’s established himself as one of the league’s elite players and is a top contender for Defensive Player of the Year after finishing runner-up to Rudy Gobert last season.
The veteran additions of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes have been instrumental in Wembanyama’s growth, while the Spurs have shown resilience during head coach Gregg Popovich’s health-related absence.
However, San Antonio still needs to fine-tune their roster to compete with Western Conference powerhouses like the Thunder and Mavericks.
The Spurs are well-positioned for the future, holding multiple first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft thanks to the Dejounte Murray trade with the Atlanta Hawks. Next, San Antonio faces the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Wednesday at 8:00 PM ET.
