[Saba Sports News] Dallas Mavericks fans were not pleased with general manager Nico Harrison’s latest comments on Kyrie Irving’s injury.

On Monday, Irving suffered a devastating leg injury during the Mavericks’ game against the Sacramento Kings at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The following day, it was confirmed that he had torn his ACL, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Harrison released a statement on Tuesday, praising Irving’s impact on the team and comparing his work ethic to that of Kobe Bryant.

“Kyrie is the heart and soul of this team, and he has embraced the city of Dallas as his home and our fans as an extension of his own family… His work ethic and absolute dedication to his craft, it’s cut from the cloth of greats. I know it, I lived it, and I see the same ferocity and passion in him that I saw in Kobe,” Harrison said.

However, Mavericks fans on X (formerly Twitter) wasted no time roasting Harrison. Many called for his resignation, while others questioned why he didn’t release a similar heartfelt statement when the team controversially traded Luka Doncic.

Back in early February, Harrison had defended the Doncic trade as a “win-now” move designed to push the Mavericks into title contention. But with Irving now sidelined for the remainder of the season—and likely a significant part of next year—his plan has unraveled quickly.

To make matters worse, Anthony Davis, the centerpiece of that trade, may not be fully committed to Harrison’s vision either, leaving the Mavericks’ future hanging in uncertainty.
