[Jolly Sports News] Anthony Davis’ debut with the Dallas Mavericks was mostly a success—he posted 26 points and 16 rebounds—but it took a turn when he suffered an adductor strain.

While the injury could sideline him for an extended period, the good news is that surgery won’t be necessary, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

“The expectation is Anthony Davis will not need surgery to treat this adductor strain. It’s a rest & rehab type of situation… The anticipation is that [AD] will be back in a Mavericks uniform at some point this season,” MacMahon reported.

Initial rumors suggested Davis might require surgery, potentially ending his season, but that option is now off the table. The Mavericks hope to get him back before the playoffs to strengthen their frontcourt, which is currently depleted with Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Derek Lively all sidelined.

Davis’ presence made an immediate impact, showcasing his dominance on both ends of the floor.

He also played at his preferred power forward position, a role he’s long desired since his Lakers days, thriving alongside a true center.

Now, Dallas must find ways to stay competitive without him. With Kyrie Irving leading the charge, the team will look to players like PJ Washington to step up, just as they did when Luka Doncic was out earlier in the season.

If they can hold the fort, Davis’ eventual return could set them up for a strong postseason push.
