[Saba Sports News] The Dallas Mavericks’ injury woes continue to pile up, with yet another key player sidelined.
On Friday night against the Houston Rockets, Mavs guard Dante Exum played just eight minutes before exiting midway through the second quarter due to discomfort in his hand.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Exum suffered a broken bone in his left hand and is expected to be out indefinitely. With only a few weeks left in the regular season, his campaign may be over.
Exum had recently stepped in as the team’s starting point guard in place of the injured Kyrie Irving, averaging 13.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over his last three games. His absence adds to a growing list of sidelined Mavericks, which already includes Irving, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and Anthony Davis.
The setback also comes just a day after the team announced second-year forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper would miss the rest of the season following wrist surgery.
It’s an especially tough break for Exum, who already missed the first four months of the season due to a right wrist injury.
Dallas currently holds the final play-in tournament spot in the Western Conference, but with their roster rapidly depleting, their postseason hopes could be slipping away.
