[Jolly Sports News] Luc Longley recently appeared on the *Yao Mile* podcast, where he reflected on his time with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. When asked about the “GOAT” in basketball, Longley was quick to declare Jordan as his pick:
“For me, he’s the GOAT. Absolutely. I’d vote for him every time. If you need someone to close out a game, he’s the guy you want with the ball.”
He added a memorable anecdote:
“NBA teams would hide play calls, but we had guys on our team who would run past the opposition bench and say ’23.’ Everyone knew the ball was going to Jordan in the fourth quarter.”
Longley also recalled his mixed emotions when traded to the Bulls. Initially, he thought he was headed to Golden State, which he was excited about. But upon learning it was Chicago, his mood changed instantly:
“I was disappointed for about half a second. Then I realized, wait… did you say Chicago?”
Arriving in Chicago, Longley was thrust into a demanding environment that pushed him to grow. He explained how the team’s culture set high expectations that required little verbal reinforcement:
“The culture was so demanding but clear. You knew what was expected just by being there.”
Reflecting on *The Last Dance*, Longley acknowledged it was MJ-focused but understood why:
“It was about the Bulls, but obviously focused on MJ. He, Scottie, Phil, and Dennis were the standout parts for the world to see. They’re the bright objects.”
Longley’s stories capture his admiration for Jordan and his respect for the Bulls’ high standards under Phil Jackson, shedding light on the disciplined environment that fueled their dynasty.
