[Jolly Sports News] A restaurant owned by NBA star James Harden, Thirteen by James Harden, has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed earlier this week.
The suit was brought by Cassaundra Jackson, who alleges the restaurant bears partial responsibility for a November 2023 car crash that claimed the lives of her daughter, Taylar Jackson, and six others, including former NFL cornerback DJ Hayden.
The lawsuit claims that Christian Daniel Herrera, the driver who caused the crash, became heavily intoxicated at Thirteen before the fatal incident. It further alleges that the restaurant violated its “statutory duty to refrain from providing alcohol to an obviously intoxicated person.”
According to court documents, Herrera left the establishment under the influence, ran a red light, and collided with another vehicle, resulting in the deaths of all involved, including himself.
Thirteen by James Harden issued a statement to Houston’s ABC station KTRK, expressing condolences, “We cannot imagine what the family of Taylar Jackson has gone through this past year and offer our deepest sympathies to them and everyone whose lives were deeply impacted by that tragic accident.
We were just made aware of the filing of this lawsuit. We ask for your patience as we gather more information on this filing and will make a more formal statement as soon as possible.”
The lawsuit seeks $1 million in damages from the restaurant.
