[Saba Sports News] The Charlotte Hornets have no plans to trade LaMelo Ball, despite speculation about his desire to play in a winning environment.

According to Michael Scotto, reports have suggested Ball wants a more competitive situation, but ESPN’s Tim Bontemps cites sources stating the Hornets have “no interest” in moving their franchise cornerstone.

“That raises the obvious question: What about LaMelo Ball?” Bontemps said. “Sources said the Hornets have no interest in moving on from their star guard.”

With young talents like Brandon Miller, Tidjane Salaun, and an upcoming lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Hornets are laying the foundation for the future. While the team is on track to miss the playoffs for the ninth consecutive year, Ball has remained a bright spot, averaging a career-high 25.5 points per game on 21.8 shot attempts.

His increased scoring and usage are largely due to injuries and the lack of talent around him, but his skill set remains elite. At 6’7″, he has the ideal size, handles, finishing ability, and shooting range for a modern point guard.

Players with Ball’s offensive versatility are rare, and Charlotte seems to recognize his value. Keeping him alongside Miller and other young assets still presents strong potential for the franchise. Though the Hornets’ rebuild will take time, Ball remains a crucial piece at just 23 years old.

Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson has made notable moves to acquire assets, drawing praise from league scouts who describe his approach as “shrewd.”

As Peterson continues to add veterans around the team’s young core, one thing remains clear—LaMelo Ball is still a key part of Charlotte’s long-term plans.
