[Jolly Sports News] Washington Wizards forward Marvin Bagley suffered a devastating leg injury during a 123-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday at Paycom Center.
The injury occurred with under seven minutes left in the game. Wizards forward Corey Kispert fouled Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein to disrupt a lob attempt, but the resulting collision sent Hartenstein crashing into Bagley. The full weight of Hartenstein appeared to land on Bagley’s right leg, causing it to twist unnaturally.
Bagley collapsed to the floor in visible agony, groaning in pain as players and officials looked on in silence. He remained down for over a minute before being helped to the locker room by teammates for medical evaluation.
The Wizards have yet to release an update on Bagley’s condition. However, based on the replay, which showed the gruesome nature of the injury, Bagley is likely facing a significant absence.
Before the injury, Bagley had recorded seven points and six rebounds in 16 minutes of play. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Bagley was selected by the Sacramento Kings just ahead of Luka Dončić.
The draft also included future All-Stars Jaren Jackson Jr. and Trae Young, further amplifying scrutiny of the Kings’ choice.
Since his tenure with the Kings ended in 2022, Bagley has had stints with the Detroit Pistons and now the Wizards. Despite criticism of Sacramento’s decision, the executive responsible for drafting Bagley has remained steadfast in defending the pick.
