[Jolly Sports News] Draymond Green responded this week to a subtle jab from his former teammate Jordan Poole, taking an approach that’s uncharacteristically subdued for the outspoken Warriors forward.
The exchange stems from Saturday’s matchup between Poole’s Washington Wizards and the Golden State Warriors. Poole led all scorers with 38 points, including eight three-pointers, but the Warriors emerged victorious with a 122-114 win.
After the game, Poole reflected on facing his former team, offering praise with a noticeable caveat. “I love those guys over there,” Poole said. “I love most of those guys over there.”
The thinly-veiled swipe appeared to target Green, a key figure in their infamous 2022 practice altercation when Green punched Poole, souring their relationship. Green acknowledged Poole’s comment on X (formerly Twitter), responding to the transcription of Poole’s remarks with, “I really am sorry.”
The tension between the two has been well-documented, particularly after the 2022 incident that occurred just months after the Warriors had celebrated a championship together.
Their relationship never fully recovered, and Poole was eventually traded to Washington in 2023 as part of the deal that brought Chris Paul to Golden State.
Green’s response on Saturday was unexpected, given his history of taking public shots at Poole, including on-court taunts during a previous Wizards-Warriors game this season. However, Green has recently shown signs of remorse.
During an episode of his podcast last month, he admitted his treatment of Poole was a “failure” as a veteran leader.
While Green’s apology on social media marks a shift in tone, critics may question why he hasn’t reached out to Poole directly. Regardless, the response suggests a more reflective side of Green as he continues to address the fallout from one of the most controversial moments of his career.
