[Jolly Sports News] Steph Curry delivered a standout performance Tuesday night, leading the Golden State Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Klay Thompson’s first game back at Chase Center since his departure.
While the emotional occasion itself might have been enough to fuel Curry, Draymond Green hinted there was an additional spark.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green shared a revealing exchange. He said he texted Curry before the game, emphasizing its importance. Curry’s response? A phone call with a surprising twist.
“Steph was supposed to give a pregame speech,” Green said. “But he told me, ‘I called Raymond (Ridder, Warriors’ VP of communications) and said I’m not speaking. I need to lock in.’ Then I tried to check in with Klay about something, and Klay ghosted him. That ticked him off, and here we go.”
While the timing of Thompson’s “ghosting” wasn’t clear, Curry’s fiery response on the court was unmistakable. He dropped 37 points, including five three-pointers, and scored the Warriors’ final 12 points.
Postgame, Curry acknowledged how tough it was to see Thompson leave in the offseason, but those emotions were set aside on Tuesday.
Thompson also delivered a strong performance, scoring 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc. But when it came to crunch time, it was Curry who sealed the win and had the last word.
