[Jolly Sports News] On a recent episode of The Hoop Collective, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed that the Lakers are taking an unconventional approach with Bronny’s development.
The 20-year-old guard, who made his G League debut last weekend, will only play in home games for the South Bay Lakers. He won’t travel for road games, effectively making him a part-time player.
“He’s only going to play in the South Bay Lakers’ home games,” Windhorst explained. “He’s not getting on flights to go to road games … and the Lakers are perfectly fine with that.”
Bronny, on a multi-year contract with the Lakers, could use all the developmental minutes he can get after struggling in limited NBA appearances, averaging 0.7 points on 16.7% shooting in six garbage-time games.
However, by skipping road games, he’s missing out on half of the G League schedule and the essential experiences that come with professional basketball—travel, team bonding, and performing in hostile environments.
As the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, Bronny’s journey has been far from ordinary, with more spectacle than typical career progression.
The Lakers’ decision to limit his participation to home games adds another layer to his unique path, setting him apart even in the developmental league.
