[Jolly Sports News] Bob Myers dropped an interesting nugget about Kevin Durant during ESPN’s NBA trade deadline show on Thursday.
The former Golden State Warriors GM (2012-2023) joined the discussion about Durant’s status with the Phoenix Suns. While Durant hasn’t expressed a desire to be traded, his name surfaced in trade talks. The Warriors reportedly attempted to bring him back, but Durant declined.
According to Myers, Golden State wasn’t the only team interested—he revealed that the Memphis Grizzlies also made a push to acquire Durant from the Suns.
The revelation came in response to another analyst suggesting that Memphis was just one star away from contention.
*”That’s why they tried on Jimmy Butler. They tried on Kevin Durant. Problem is, those guys said no,”* Myers said.
His point was clear: the Grizzlies were aggressive in their pursuit of a superstar, but the players weren’t interested.
Memphis entered Tuesday at 35-16, holding the second-best record in the Western Conference, a major turnaround from last season’s 27-55 finish.
Additionally, Chris Haynes reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves also attempted to pry Durant away from Phoenix. Myers didn’t mention them, but it’s evident that multiple teams were checking on the former MVP’s availability.
Durant, now in his second full season with the Suns, handpicked Phoenix as his destination when Brooklyn traded him in 2023. Despite the team’s struggles, he appears committed to making things work.
