[Jolly Sports News] Dwyane Wade’s new statue outside Miami’s Kaseya Center quickly became a hot topic, but not for the reasons intended.
What was meant to honor Wade’s Miami Heat legacy turned into social media fodder, with critics roasting the statue’s odd design. Among them was sports commentator Bill Simmons, who humorously dubbed it “the worst statue of all time” on his podcast.
“It looked like somebody who emerged from a fire and lived,” Simmons joked, comparing it to “Jim Carrey’s sketch” and even likening it to a “Lord of the Rings character.” Simmons imagined people needing “700 guesses” to identify the statue as Wade, questioning how involved Wade was in its design.
While Wade expressed satisfaction with the statue, fans and critics were left scratching their heads. Simmons and others pointed out that iconic statues of players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant capture their essence, while Wade’s statue has become a viral sensation for its unintended comic appeal.
Despite the backlash, Wade’s legacy remains untarnished, even as the statue’s serves more as a punchline than a tribute.
