[Saba Sports News] Four Olympic medals appear to be more than enough for LeBron James.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Tony Maglio, the Los Angeles Lakers star was asked whether he plans to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics. James, now 40, made it clear he doesn’t expect to suit up for Team USA again.
“If I had to look at it right now through a microscope, I would say that me being able to support Team USA for the rest of my life, that’s for sure,” James said. “But me actually going on and playing, I don’t see it happening.
“I’ve given everything that I have,” he added. “And I will always be appreciative and loyal and dedicated to Team USA and USA Basketball.”
James’ response doesn’t come as a surprise, especially considering he’ll be 43 — nearly 44 — when the 2028 Games take place in Los Angeles. He’s already made four Olympic appearances: winning bronze in Athens (2004), gold in Beijing (2008) and London (2012), sitting out Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020), and returning to claim his third gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
Despite his age, James remains an elite player, averaging over 25 points per game and showing little sign of slowing down. And with the 2028 Games being hosted in L.A., where he stars for the Lakers, the idea of one final Olympic run had sparked speculation.
But James has been consistent in his messaging, having already given a firm “no” to the idea of playing in 2028 earlier this year. Now, he’s reaffirmed that stance — content with his Olympic legacy and ready to cheer from the sidelines.
