[Saba Sports News] The chances of Kevin Durant suiting up for the San Antonio Spurs appear to be fading fast.
According to NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the Spurs are no longer pursuing the former MVP forward, citing concerns about his longevity and how he fits into the team’s long-term vision alongside rising star Victor Wembanyama.
“San Antonio’s not in on KD,” Robinson quoted a source as saying. “They have concerns about how many years he has left in the tank, and the focus is on building something sustainable around Wemby.”
That report aligns with recent buzz from other NBA insiders. Grant Afseth of RG also reported Friday that doubts are growing within the Spurs organization about acquiring Durant, largely because his age doesn’t match Wembanyama’s developmental timeline.
Just days ago, San Antonio appeared to be a strong candidate to trade for Durant — with one report even suggesting they were his preferred destination. But at 37 this September, Durant is at a much different stage in his career than 21-year-old Wembanyama. The Spurs, who finished just 34-48 this season, may not benefit enough from a short-term push — especially one that would likely require them to give up valuable pieces of their young core.
Though Durant remains a top-tier performer (averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season), he’s entering the final year of his contract at $54.7 million — raising concerns that he could be a costly one-year rental.
With that, the Spurs appear to be stepping away from the table, leaving three other teams reportedly still in the running for a potential Durant trade.
