[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are widely expected to trade superstar Kevin Durant this offseason — and the Minnesota Timberwolves are likely to come calling once again.
After a failed attempt to land Durant at the trade deadline in February, the Timberwolves are expected to reignite trade talks, according to Ashish Mathur of Hoops Wire. Mathur reports that Minnesota believes they need one more true “alpha” alongside Anthony Edwards to compete for a championship, and Durant is viewed as the ideal fit — despite winning just one playoff series since 2023.
The potential pairing makes sense. Edwards has long admired Durant, calling him his “favorite player of all time,” and the two shared the court last summer as teammates with Team USA, building familiarity and chemistry.
While the 36-year-old Durant hasn’t been able to elevate the Suns to title contention, his résumé remains elite: two NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, and a regular-season MVP. This past season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 52.7% shooting — a clear sign he still has plenty left in the tank.
Though Durant has a no-trade clause, reports indicate he may be open to waiving it for Minnesota — a team he’s reportedly interested in joining. A move to the Timberwolves could offer Durant the chance to return to championship contention alongside one of the league’s brightest young stars.
