[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks recently secured a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals with a commanding Game 6 win over the Boston Celtics. Karl-Anthony Towns delivered a standout performance in the closeout game, helping set up a showdown with the Indiana Pacers for a trip to the NBA Finals.
Over the weekend, Towns was spotted on the jumbotron at the Yankees vs. Mets game, wearing a shirt that caught plenty of attention — it featured a photo of viral Knicks superfan Jason Dantona, taken from a famous clip on the “Sidetalk” YouTube series.
In the clip, filmed outside Madison Square Garden after a Knicks win, Dantona goes on a profanity-laced tirade against Boston before breaking into a dance — a moment that has lived on in Knicks lore.
Now, Dantona is reacting to Towns’ tribute.
“I thought they were messing with me,” he told TMZ. “I had known the shirt was released a couple weeks ago before we even knew we were playing the Celtics, but I didn’t expect any of the players to actually wear it.”
He said the moment only felt real once he saw it gaining traction online.
“Didn’t believe it at first, but then social media kind of went crazy with it, and I saw the posts from the Yankees and even MLB — it was a really cool moment,” Dantona said.
The Knicks now prepare for a playoff rematch with the Pacers, the same team that eliminated them in a Game 7 heartbreaker last year. That series ended with New York down multiple starters, but fans — including Dantona — are optimistic about a different outcome this time.
“This year looks like we’re healthy, Lord willing,” Dantona said. “So I think we’re going to be taking them out in six games.”
Game 1 between the Pacers and Knicks tips off Wednesday at 8:00 PM ET at Madison Square Garden and will be broadcast on TNT.
