Ja Morant’s Trigger Finger Makes a Comeback

[Saba Sports News] Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant had another head-scratching moment during Thursday’s road game against the Miami Heat.

After sinking a three-pointer in the first quarter—his first bucket of the night—Morant turned to his own bench and broke out a shotgun gesture. Seems like he had that one chambered and ready.

The timing? Pretty telling. Just one game prior, Morant came under fire from the NBA for flashing a gun gesture during a loss to the Golden State Warriors. In that game, he and Warriors guard Buddy Hield exchanged the gestures in a not-so-subtle back-and-forth that caught the league’s attention.

Ultimately, the NBA opted to issue only warnings, stating that while the actions weren’t “intended to be violent in nature,” they were still “inappropriate.” And with that, Morant apparently felt free to run it back in the very next outing.

The 25-year-old guard continues to face heightened scrutiny due to his past suspensions for flashing actual firearms on social media. And judging by his actions, he doesn’t seem all that concerned.

In fact, Morant was already pulling post-suspension gun celebrations as early as last season. At this point, it feels less like carelessness—and more like a challenge to see just how far he can push the league’s patience.
