[Saba Sports News] Anthony Davis can’t seem to catch a break in his short time with the Dallas Mavericks—getting hurt in his debut, and now again in just his fifth game with the team.
The star big man took a scary hit at the end of the first quarter during Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. While scrambling for a loose ball, Davis took an inadvertent elbow to the face from teammate Daniel Gafford.
He left the court and spent over nine minutes in the locker room before eventually returning late in the second quarter. Davis also started the second half, appearing to avoid any serious injury.
Davis, a 10-time All-Star and the centerpiece of February’s blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers, has had a rocky start in Dallas.
In his first game with the Mavericks, he suffered an adductor injury that sidelined him for over six weeks. Since returning on March 24, Davis has averaged 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds—a far cry from his usual production.
While Davis returned to action against Atlanta without apparent issue, the Mavericks are still treading water at 37-39 and on the edge of falling out of the play-in race.
If Davis experiences any lingering effects from the blow, especially with his vision, Dallas may opt to be cautious with their newly acquired star.
