[Saba Sports News] Fans weren’t buying a recent report about a failed Luka Doncic trade proposal.

As more details emerge about the blockbuster trade that sent Doncic to the Lakers, a new report from The Athletic’s Sam Amick suggests that the Dallas Mavericks initially explored trading Doncic for a different star named Anthony—specifically, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to the report, the Mavericks and Timberwolves “informally discussed” a potential Doncic-for-Edwards swap, with Mavs GM Nico Harrison allegedly reaching out to Minnesota weeks before ultimately striking a deal with the Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Many fans on X immediately questioned the legitimacy of the report, especially since it contradicts previous claims that the Mavericks had exclusively negotiated with Los Angeles.

Skeptics argued that if a potential Doncic-Edwards trade had been on the table, it would have leaked much earlier.

One of the biggest criticisms against Dallas has been how the team seemingly rushed into the Lakers deal without shopping Doncic around for better offers.

The latest report only fueled speculation that the Mavericks are now trying to justify their decision post-trade.

This news also follows another recent report that the Mavericks traded Doncic out of fear of a looming “catastrophe” in his future.

With conflicting details about the trade still surfacing weeks after the deadline, it’s no surprise fans are questioning the narrative Dallas is trying to spin.
