On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported that the Dallas Mavericks feared a future “catastrophe” with Doncic’s health, which allegedly played a role in their shocking decision to trade him despite being in his prime.
The report also mentioned that some within the Mavericks were uneasy about Doncic’s love for beer and hookah, which naturally led fans to embrace the nickname in his defense.
While Dallas scrambles to justify parting ways with Hookah Doncic, the fans aren’t buying it. Unless Luka completely falls off in the next two years, the trade will remain a head-scratcher—especially considering he led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals last year, beer and hookah included.
No matter how hard the Mavs try to explain themselves, it’s clear that fans aren’t letting them off the hook.
