[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors are making one final push for a championship with their current core, and they might have Draymond Green to thank for a key move.
According to The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II and Sam Amick, Green made a blunt request to the Warriors’ front office before the Feb. 6 trade deadline—he wanted them to acquire another “a-hole” to bolster the team’s title chances.
Green believed the Warriors lacked an intense, two-way leader in the mold of Andre Iguodala, who had played a crucial role in past championship runs before retiring in 2023.
The front office listened, landing Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. So far, the move has paid off, with Golden State going 5-1 since Butler’s arrival and suddenly looking like a legitimate contender again.
Initially, many expected Green and Butler’s fiery personalities to clash, but it turns out Green was one of the biggest advocates for the trade. As long as both stay focused on their championship aspirations, their partnership should work.
Butler is averaging 20 points per game in six appearances with the Warriors. He hasn’t even found a permanent home in the Bay Area yet, but his impact on the team has been immediate—just as Green predicted.
